This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Media to Memories, LLC. Media to Memories is a photo-organizing business based in Severna Park, Maryland, that helps people organize, archive, and display their photos in such a way as to make them more enjoyable to view. Owner and lead memory organizer Kristy Stephens came up with the idea to start her business when she sat down to work with her family photos to create her family’s annual yearbook. “I was amazed by how many photos my family of three took in one year,” said Stephens. “We had taken well over 3,000 photos and videos in just one year.” This was when she realized that she had so many photos and videos that it was unrealistic that her family would be able to enjoy them. So, like many entrepreneurs, once she recognized the problem, she then decided to find a solution. That’s when she discovered that she could help other families and organizations get their photo collections under control, making sure they were protected, and putting them in a state in which they could once again be enjoyed. Excited by the idea of being able to help other people with something she was passionate about, Stephens joined the Association of Personal Photo Organizers (APPO) and started her business, Media to Memories, LLC. APPO is an association of small businesses that help people tame their photo chaos and create projects that enable them to relive and preserve their best memories. Memory-keeping has always been a passion of Stephens. She started creating digital scrapbook albums in 2005. This activity brought together her love of organization, writing, and creative design into one beautiful, joyful gift for the recipient. Additionally, a theme in her career path has been the graceful management of information. From her work in journalism, website and knowledge management, and marketing, she developed skills in interviewing, writing, organizing, design, and project management. Media to Memories organizes, preserves, and protects photos and stories for both families and organizations. Services include scanning, media conversion, organizing print and digital photos, and creating custom photo albums, slideshows, and gifts. “We transform media you cared enough to capture into memories you will never forget,” according to Stephens. “I founded this business out of the desire to help families and organizations get control over their irreplaceable photos and video collections.
